How much revenue do you need for business funding?

The short answer, and what actually moves the number.

Most business funding starts at around $20,000 a month in revenue, with at least a year in business. That is the floor, not the target — the amount you are offered is sized against your bank deposits, so consistent revenue at a lower figure often beats higher revenue that arrives erratically.

Why deposits matter more than revenue

Revenue is what your books say. Deposits are what actually landed in the business bank account, and that is what gets underwritten. If you invoice $60,000 a month but collect $25,000 of it in the account, the second number is the one that counts.

This is also why four months of statements are requested rather than a tax return. Statements show the pattern — how often money arrives, how steady it is, and what the balance looks like between deposits.

What else is weighed alongside revenue

Time in business. A year or more opens the widest set of options; six months is workable for some products.

Deposit consistency. Twenty deposits a month at $1,000 reads more favourably than one deposit of $20,000, because it suggests recurring customers rather than a single contract.

Account conduct. Overdrafts and negative-balance days count against a file more than most owners expect. A handful across four months is normal; a pattern of them is a problem.

Existing obligations. If other funding is already being repaid out of the account, that repayment is treated as a fixed cost against what you can support.

How much you can expect to be offered

As a rough guide, a revenue-based offer commonly lands somewhere between half and all of one month's deposits. A business banking $40,000 a month might see offers in the $20,000 to $40,000 range; term products and equipment financing work differently and can go well beyond that.

Silverback funds from $10,000 to $5,000,000, so the practical limit is usually what your deposits support rather than a cap on the product.
